July 21st & 22nd, 2024

WEATHER: Sunday was beautiful. Warm, dry & sunny. Today is cloudy with light sprinkles and cooler. 

It doesn’t matter what the weather is. It doesn’t deter us from our goal of 6 fish per day. Unless it’s more trailer trouble. Gary spent much of the day trying to figure out why we don’t have electricity. Both Gerry (an engineer) and Gary couldn’t figure it out. Gary ended up calling a professional electrician today who works exclusively on trailers. He was also baffled and said he would be out tomorrow to look at it but in the mean time take a look at where the plug comes into the trailer. From there it was only a matter of minutes before Gerry had it figured out and Gary fixed it. 

I caught my limit yesterday which brought in another 14 pounds. Unfortunately Gary was unable to contribute because he was doing what he loves most, teaching fishing to two more friends who joined us here from NH!! Deb & Jeff Clark arrived Saturday evening and we spent the day with them on Sunday. They have yet to catch their first fish… but it’s not for the lack of trying! She is determined to get one in the net before they leave on Thursday.

The fish count entering the river from the ocean has gone down dramatically which made today particularly difficult. We each were able to land one fish apiece  before calling it quits for the day. We all had fun trying no matter what.

The evening was topped off by a steak dinner in the trailer as it began to rain outside.

 We're Baaaaack!! Well, we lied... If you have followed our last two journeys to Alaska, the first in 2010 followed by the second in 2016, it ended up with us determining we would never return to that wonderful place.  Not that we didn't love it, but we felt we had seen all it had to offer and 150 lbs of salmon is quite enough, don't you think?  We were satisfied... we were satiated.... we were content.... we are heading back!  June 25th, 2024 THE DETAILS: Cool night and very warm day. 42 overnight and 80 today. 260 miles/8 hours  Staying at Pioneer RV park just south of Whitehorse in Yukon Punctuation is important, eh? When we stopped to look at a possible dry camping site that overlooked a beautiful teal blue  river we noticed a handwritten note secured with duct tape to a picnic table. It read !!problem bear in area!! Gary read the note as “problem, bear in area”. He laughed and said, no kidding. I, on the other hand, read it as saying, “problem-bear in the area.” And I immediately went back to the truck for some bear spray!! Thank goodness we never encountered the problem bear.  Today’s journey was a gorgeous drive through the Cassier Mountain range with heavy white clouds hanging above them. It was picture perfect. I know some people find the beach to be their happy place (Deb Clark) but I have to say, I am most inspired by snow capped mountains! We saw 3 black bear today but couldn’t get their picture.

  June 15, 2024 Day 1   THE DETAILS: Cool, dry, clear day to travel We drove 500 miles today Staying in Erie, PA   The difference between a trip vs a journey… one is planned the other is taken from the Latin word ‘diurnum’ which means “daily portion”, “a day’s travel” … we’re on a journey. Taking one day at a time because scripture says “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” Matthew 6:34 Our journey started before we ever drove our first mile! This past week has been filled with trials that have tested our resolve and patience. Tuesday my mother became ill which required me to extend my visit with her to make sure she was comfortable before leaving. On my way home while driving on a remote part of the road, a deer jumped out and hit my 4-month-old car (used but new to me!), the week continued with our internet having problems which is a big problem due to my brother Dave and his wife coming
